Transistor Specification Selection Guide
Maximum Collector Current
(BJT Size)
|
- What:
- The maximum current rating is one of the best indicators of the "size" of a bipolar transistor. A higher rating equates to a higher output power capability; a lower rating indicates lower power and usually indicates higher gain as well (usually coupled with lower stability). P 1dB (output power at 1 dB gain compression, or "linear power capability") is directly related to I max.
- Direction:
- needs to fit application
- Range:
- 5 mA to several 100 mAs for small signal transistors
- 100 mA to multiple Amperes for power transistors
