"Baseband" encompasses those aspects of the radio taking place below radio frequencies. This is in reality a very large part of the radio. This circuitry typically includes demodulation and D-to-A conversion, as well as data processing. The detaails of the circuitry will be specific to the application. Many Baseband chips are CMOS or Bi-CMOS based ASICs (Applications Specific Integrated Circuits).
